What MCP Unlocks Per Role
Every connector is a time unlock. Here is what changes for each role when MCP connectors are deployed.
| Role | MCP Connectors | What Changes |
|---|---|---|
| CR Agent | Zendesk + Glean + Confluence + Slack | No more switching between 5 systems per ticket |
| Sales (ISA) | HubSpot + Slack + Snowflake | Pipeline review, competitive intel, call prep in one conversation |
| Chargeback Analyst | Zendesk + Confluence + Snowflake | Evidence assembly from one place instead of 4 portals |
| Compliance (CDD) | Glean + Confluence + Jira + KMP (browser) | Alert triage across all sources |
| Finance | Snowflake + Excel MCP + SAP (Workato) | Reconciliation without manual data pulls |
| Marketing | Braze + HubSpot + Slack + Confluence | Campaign analysis and content creation loop |
| HR | HiBob + Jira + Confluence + Slack | Employee queries, onboarding checklists |
| Logistics | Zuper + Zendesk + Slack | Delivery tracking + customer comms in one flow |
MCP vs Alternatives
MCP is the open standard. Here is how it compares to proprietary alternatives.
| Feature | MCP | OpenAI Actions | Zapier AI Actions | Copilot Plugins |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Protocol type | Open standard (Linux Foundation) | Proprietary (OpenAI) | Proprietary platform | Proprietary (Microsoft) |
| Vendor lock-in | None -- works with Claude, GPT, Gemini | OpenAI ecosystem | Zapier ecosystem | Microsoft 365 ecosystem |
| Connector count | 19,800+ on Glama registry | ~200 GPT Actions | 8,000+ apps, 40,000+ actions | M365 native + custom |
| Non-engineer friendly | Yes (once IT configures) | Yes | Yes | Yes (within M365) |
| Enterprise governance | Maturing (gateways, audit trails) | Limited | Built-in | Azure AD integrated |
| Cost model | Free protocol, server costs only | OpenAI API pricing | Task-based billing | M365 licensing |
| FinTech suitability | Best -- open, auditable, vendor-neutral | Good -- growing ecosystem | Good for simple automations | Good if M365-centric |
| Our recommendation | Primary standard | Monitor | Complement for simple flows | Already using via M365 |
Security Principles for FinTech
- Never connect MCP servers directly -- always route through a gateway
- Read-only first -- start with read access, graduate to write after validation
- Human-in-the-loop mandatory for actions modifying customer data, financial records, or compliance status
- Allowlist servers -- only IT-approved MCP servers can connect
- PII filtering -- configure MCP to exclude PII fields where possible
- Regular security review -- monthly review of connected MCP servers against CVE databases
